Happy Birthday, Big Guy!

If I was celebrating Jesus' Birthday with him, I'd give him a copy of Opeth's latest, "Damnation", my favorite album of 2003, and an invitation to the next Dean Meet Up in Burlington, I think he'd like that. Maybe ask him to come over to watch the fourth season of B5 when it arrives on DVD next week, too. He loves that scene at the end of War Without End, with Sinclair as Valen with the two Vorlons hovering overhead (he makes me pause that scene every time we watch it)!

There, religion, music, politics and sci fi all in one fell swoop!

Good riddance to 2003, a year that never felt setled down and lived in. Seemed to me an uneasy year. 2004 just sounds better, all round and even, 20 and 4... makes me think it could be a good year. We'll see.

Did you know celebration of Christmas was a relatiely late development in the church? Thank Constantine once again, who codified the Christian celebration to coopt the pagan celebrations centered around Saturnalia, worship of Mithras and the Sun. Protestant churches did not offer Christmas services until the overwhelming popularity of the Catholic celebration began to draw away members on December 25th during the 19th century. Better to celebrate Easter, dontcha think?
